Welcome to the Summer Food Service Program!
In the spring of 2006 a reported asked a young girl on the last day of school "what she would miss" expecting the typical answer, my teacher, my friends but her answer hit the officers of YACD very hard. Her answer was "breakfast." This made us wonder about how many children would go hungry during the summer. Again this winter when the schools in central Ohio were closed for one week the question was "will children go hungary because they could not receive breakfast or lunch because the school is closed?
In keeping with the mission of YACD "Standing in the GAP" the staff and officers made the decision to become a USDA Summer Food Sponsor. SFSP is the single largest Federal resource available for local sponsors who want to combine a feeding program with a summer activity program. Children in our community do not need to go hungry this summer. During the school year, nutritious meals are available through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. But those programs end when school ends for the summer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program helps fill the hunger gap.
During the 2007 summer we have three sites:
Each site has a summer activity program incorporated in the food program. If you live in any of these three areas please contact the site manager to enroll your student.
